Breakthroughs in Science: Hypersonic travel

Aerospace engineers at the University of Central Florida are drawing global attention for their successful experiments in hypersonic propulsion. Their work would lead to safe and stabile hypersonic air travel in the future– that could fly passengers from Tampa to Los Angeles in a matter of minutes.

FOX 13 Tampa Bay brings you the important videos like breaking news, Tampa Bay weather, and local stories. But also plenty of fun stuff, like ‘We Live Here’ tips, the best of our archives, and all those ‘only-in-Florida’ stories.

  1. It's a lab concept, nothing more, and like most lab concepts, will probably stay in a lab. Commercializing something like this and making it safe for human travel would be many times harder than developing the engine.

  2. This had to be Florida, literally nobody is smart enough in that whole state to notice that this is all a marketing scam.

We have had hypersonic travel for years. This is just a jet engine. They're lying for funding, which is typical. Like that one kid who did high school physics experiments and everyone said he was the next Einstein. Had to take a smart person like me to figure this out, but I guess most people aren't retired propulsion engineers like myself.

  3. If something is traveling 13,000 mph, if something goes wrong at that speed aren't you just instantly dead?
Like there's no system that could stop an aircraft going that speed in a reasonable amount of time right?
Also imagine that hitting something when you're traveling 13,000 mph…. it would obliterate any structure
