8 Reasons Why I Still Buy Compact Discs | Retro Tech Review

It’s no secret that CDs are not as popular as they used to be. But there are folks like me who still buy CDs, and still enjoy listening to them.

Of course, streaming is very popular nowadays. I never could get in to streaming. It just doesn’t appeal to me. I still get a rush buying a new CD by one of my favorite artists.

When you think about compact discs versus vinyl, what do you think is better? What sounds best to you? I love the sound of vinyl, but to my ears it still does not match the clarity of CDs.

The dynamic range and reproduction of Compact Discs is still tough to beat. Plus, as I mention in the video, CDs tend to be much cheaper than vinyl.

Do you have a CD collection? What is your all-time favorite CD?

  1. Lately, I've been snatching so many CDs for just a few dollars each and expanding my iTunes digital library. Also, a lot of people aren't aware that you can enjoy CDs CD-Rs, CD-RW, and Data Discs on a DVD player, which can be connected via RCA jacks to a receiver or speakers, etc. You can also get an affordable CD drive to connect to the PC via USB and play or rip the discs.

  2. Just started getting back into buying CDs at 55. Just wanted to have the entire album play complete with no adds and in high quality. Just recently purchased a DVD player that can rip as well so doesn't even need a computer. I hope to add a few albums a month and really increase my collection which dates back to the 80s. Also looking at some small hifi CD systems so I have something nice to play in my tv room versus some bigger BT/direct connect speakers downstairs
